Granted the male cardinal is a vibrant red, while the female is a dull red-brown, but her color serves to camouflage the nest.  The male marks his territory with song.  During courtship, he feeds seed to his mate beak-beak.

The above painting has a new addition.  I decided that the office floor was just to cold and uninviting.  The look on the cat's face was unwelcoming enough!

 

To warm the room, I added a nice, fluffy rug.  I like it much more now.

Cats own stuff.  The stuff they own is usually high off the ground.  My little unfettered assistant, Beatrice, will scold with a loud, gravelly meow if one should even venture into a room where she is firmly ensconced on some piece of furniture or something she has declared to be a piece of furniture. Consider this a warning. Do not be thinking you will be sitting on her chosen spot!  In this house, we do not argue with her.  We just meekly walk away.

 

 

 

 

 

A very fun part of living with animals is that it is socially acceptable to brag about them!  Isn't she precious!!?

Because it makes me happy, this painting hangs in my kitchen. 

 It is an early Sharon Rose Smith piece painted with a palette knife which will make it rare as I found painting with a palette knife to be challenging to say the least. 

I like the simplicity of this painting.  It says a lot without being "wordy." Saying only what needs to be said proves to be as difficult in painting as in life.

As a grandmother who  lives too far from her grandchildren, I have learned to acknowledge and appreciate special times with them.  This was just such a moment.  This little guy's grandfather and I were with him in a tuxedo shop.  He was being fitted for a tuxedo for his all important job as ring bearer in the upcoming wedding of his aunt.  When I looked over at him sitting on the floor trying the shiny shoe on for size, I saw a moment that I realized needed to be immortalized.  

One of the greatest gifts in my life is my grandson.  Even though I was raised surrounded by brothers, he has opened up the boy world to me.  I am now an expert on so many things it would never have entered my mind to discover...earth movers, locks, Harry Potter, Legos to name a few!

 When I was a child, my brothers and sisters and I would occasionally find ourselves on a Sunday afternoon drive through the hilly southern Indiana countryside. 

 

In the summer time all roads led to corn fields.  My parents would comment on the progress of the crop.  Was it a good year or not.  My dad's judgment was that corn should stand knee high by the fourth of July.
 

It was not until I moved back to my native Indiana as an adult that I appreciated corn.  It was then that I was able to notice the rolling waves created by a breeze or hear the rustle as the air passes through the corn.  It reminded me of a green ocean.

Mark Twain said, "when a man loves cats, I am his friend and comrade, without further introduction."

I can not say it better, as these are my sentiments exactly.   It is a wise person that realizes that the love animals  bestow upon us is priceless.  And might I add that love from a cat usually requires a little effort.  Most cats pick winners and losers when it comes to whom they admire.

 

I saw this scene and immediately knew it was a painting I had to paint.
