Cats can tell time.  They are prompt little beings and expect no less from their wait staff. Meals shall appear in a timely fashion and must consist of what was ordered.  None of this substituting 'weight loss management food' for their old standbys like Fancy Feast wet food.   They are in charge of when it is time for a diet, thank you very much!  And for the well being of your psyche, don't even think about bringing home the store brand.  They will walk away in a huff of indignity previously never witnessed.  After all, you should know better than to "cut back" in the CAT area of the budget.

Establishing hierarchy always seems to be so crucial. However after we are firmly ensconced at the top, we may start to notice that our life has changed; not always for the better.  In order to remain at the top, we realize we must be ever vigilant. Meanwhile, our lesser subjects can take nice long naps!

This adorable little girl managed to get herself lost in Alaska. She left through an open window and was gone for weeks. She has remained rather aloof about her grand adventure.  None the worse for the wear, Beatrice currently resides in Connecticut.

Harold fishes in a pond near the home of my grandchildren. There is some assuming going on concerning the name they have  bestowed upon the heron.  If Harold is really a male heron deserving of his name, he would bring all the makings for a nest to his mate and she would be responsible for building it.

After much excitement, I am returning to normal life.  (What is that?)  With the goal of catching up, I have been painting away on commissions.

 

Amongst my commission work, I created this thank you card for the couple.  It is pen and ink with watercolor.

This is another treasured little painting hanging in my home. It embodies two enjoyments in my life-furniture and animal rescues.  Animals just know how to put a piece of furniture to its best use. They see furniture differently than we do. Fabric, price, age- none of these characteristics mean a thing.  For them a piece of furniture is either a jumping off place or a source for their unadulterated comfort. And they know the perfect use when they see it. This cat was caught moments before some spring board action!

Experiment.  Initially I hung the smaller piece of art on top; I was surprised to find that it looked much better hanging below.

This is another of my favorite paintings.  These two have been partners in crime since the day they met.  The coffee drinker is my mother's first grand daughter and my oldest daughter.  My mother had boundless energy for her grandchildren.  For my daughter, a visit to grandma's house meant an adventure around every corner.

My mother taught me how to be a granny. (It's the simple things that matter.) Today, my mother is adored by her adult grandchildren.

Displaying Art

  I like to see small pieces of art in big, fat frames.  This 6"x6" painting frames out to 12"x12."   For display, try an easel!  The advantage to an easel is accessibility to the painting.  This painting sits on a foyer chest.  Occassionally when I walk through the front door, I pick up the painting.  It makes me happy.  Art should always bring joy.
